Principal's Message

I am so pleased and honored to continue working with the dedicated faculty and staff of Mulholland Middle School as the new Principal. We are eager to continue the legacy of success established by our esteemed former Principal, Dr. Gregory J. Vallone. We will continue with our commitment to offering students the best educational experience possible. As we learn the unique qualities and gifts of our students, we are better able to provide more personalized learning experiences that cultivate excellence in academics and character. We maintain high expectations for every student in a safe and nurturing community. We strive to make the learning process a positive and rewarding experience for every child, in every classroom, every day.

We believe children learn more when they are engaged with the content and enjoy what they are learning; therefore, we offer a variety of high – interest programs at our school. In addition to our exceptional host school, we have an outstanding School for Advanced Studies, a highly regarded Police Academy Magnet, and an innovative STEAM certified Robotics Magnet.  We also offer Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways in Engineering, Video, and Biotechnology.

Schoolwide, teacher teams plan lessons that incorporate higher-order thinking skills and problem solving strategies so students are better prepared to navigate the needs of the 21st Century.  Infused in all classroom practice is a focus on cultivating habits of character and civility.

Our School for Advanced Studies is designed specifically to challenge gifted and high achieving students to meet and exceed the state’s common core standards, and prepare our students not only for high school but for college as well. Actions we take to reach these goals include a rigorous student centered curriculum, and accelerated math classes designed to ensure success in high school, college and beyond

The Mulholland Junior Police Academy Magnet, the Nation’s first middle school program, provides a rigorous academic program centered on law enforcement and law enforcement related careers.  By providing an environment of structure, the academy’s main goal is to create a learning environment in which all students can achieve academic excellence by understanding the importance of integrity, commitment, responsibility, self-discipline, confidence, and pride.  The Police Academy Magnet Staff (teachers & L.A.P.D. Officers) focus on the development of specific policies and procedures that align to the thematic nature of law enforcement.  Curriculum is provided with thematic instruction in core classes and specially designed electives that foster an interest in law enforcement and related careers. Emphasis is on academics, physical fitness and training, leadership, forensic science and social justice.  The Mulholland Middle School Police Academy Magnet educates the whole child; mind, body, and spirit.

Our STEAM certified Robotics Magnet is LAUSD’s first Robotics Magnet and is the doorway to the future.  Every student is provided a safe place where they are challenged individually and in groups.  Students are challenged to solve real world problems that are academically rigorous, technology dependent, and will further their pursuit of higher education.  Our dedicated staff provides students with a vigorous learning environment where students discover technology and how that technology will be utilized for future endeavors.  We strive to have students build and create robots that will compete in worldwide competitions, as well as producing thematic results from their curricular objectives.  Our program offers hands-on learning, theme-based teaching, and small-group instruction in a fun and exciting learning environment.  We can boast that we have won the VEX Robotics Design CA state championship twice.

Come to Mulholland and experience a challenging educational journey that is intellectually, socially, and personally enriching and transformative.
