Robotics Program Description
THE ROBOTS HAVEN’T just landed in the workplace—they’re expanding skills, moving up the corporate ladder, showing awesome productivity and retention rates, and increasingly shoving aside their human counterparts. One multi-tasker bot, from Momentum Machines, can make (and flip) a gourmet hamburger in 10 seconds and could soon replace an entire McDonalds crew. A manufacturing device from Universal Robots doesn’t just solder, paint, screw, glue, and grasp—it builds new parts for itself on the fly when they wear out or bust. Here at Mulholland Middle School Robotics Magnet we offer students the opportunity to construct challenging robots for the chance to compete in robotic competitions. At the competitions, alliances of robotic teams compete with and against other teams where they try to outmaneuver other robots. The goal is to out maneuver other teams and acquire the greatest number of points. The students redesign their robots based on prior competitions, adapting them for the challenges of the next competition.
The future is here and it will be built by those who can design, repair, code, and run robots. Here at Mulholland Middle School Robotics Magnet we strive to teach our students to do all this and more. Our program is academically challenging while addressing the core standards that are required of each student. Not only will students be designing robots, but each student will be nudged to their full academic potential.
Our staff of qualified teachers believes real learning happens when students are allowed to discover through hands-on, learning models. True learning is looking at the successes and the mistakes and modifying learning based on the discoveries of both. We strive to provide educational opportunities that will engage students in the learning process. They are excited and energized while being exposed to a wide variety of concepts and skills. We hope to give each student the advantage of productive careers in the real world.
Mission Statement: To inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, technology, math, and science. We strive to engage students with project based learning involving coding, mathematics, documentation and engineering that will foster problem solving and team skills.
